Physicals Q & A
What are physicals?
A physical or physical examination is an assessment of your health status. The purpose of physicals is to establish a clear picture of your health and wellness. You may have a physical every year as part of your regular health maintenance or for compliance with insurance, sports, or work requirements. A physical gives your primary care provider an opportunity to
- Assess your current medication list
- Assess you for signs of acute illness
- Build trust with you
- Educate you on new or updated health information
- Identify your increased health risks
- Monitor your chronic health problems
- Update immunizations
- Update your health record
- Update your plan of care
A quality physical helps to create an up-to-date, holistic health maintenance plan that is specific to you and your health needs.
What happens during physicals?
During a physical, your ProMedTC, LLC provider will:
- Assesses every body system
- Records your weight and height
- Takes vital signs, including blood pressure, oxygen level, and heart rate
- Collects urine for urinalysis
- Collects blood for routine laboratory testing
- Asks questions about current health status
- Answers any questions or concerns you may have
- Makes changes to medications and treatment plans
Tymur may order follow-up testing, including cancer screenings, specialized bloodwork, or EKG, depending on your health history, symptoms, or risk factors for some diseases.
How does my provider assess my body during a physical?
During a physical exam. Tymur assesses your primary body systems by:
- Assessing the quality and integrity of your skin
- Checking for skin problems or wounds
- Evaluating your coordination and muscle movement
- Evaluating your mental health
- Feeling your abdomen
- Listening to heart, lung, and digestive sounds
- Looking inside your nose, mouth, and ears
- Monitoring blood flow and checking for signs of poor circulation
- Testing your reflexes
- Testing your vision and hearing
Tymur tailors physicals to the age, gender, and health history of a patient. In addition to a regular assessment, men also receive a prostate check and prostate-related blood work. For women, a physical may include a breast and pelvic exam and a Pap smear.
If Tymur finds anything concerning that needs follow-up testing or treatment, he discusses this with you and gives you a chance to ask any questions or share any concerns.
